Concrete
Concrete skip bins in Cairns
The 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³ are concrete only, the 6m³ takes a maximum of 6 tonne. Keep it clean and it is crushed to road base at our own yard, not tipped.
The job
Concrete is the load that runs out of weight before it runs out of room
You searched for a concrete skip bin because a slab, a path or a footing has been broken out and it is sitting in a heap that no ute is going to shift. What you need is a bin that can legally carry it, a size that will not be over the limit before it looks half full, and a straight answer on whether it can go in with the rest of the job. That is the page.
- 1A bin that can legally carry it
- 2A size that is not over the limit half full
- 3A straight answer on mixing it with the rest
The crush
One clean load, from slab to road base
Follow a concrete load from the breaker to our yard. Keep it on its own and every stage ends the same way: crushed and reused, not dumped.
01
Broken out
Slab, path, footing or driveway broken into pieces on site.
Book it in a size the weight suits. The 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³ are concrete only. The 6m³ takes a maximum of 6 tonne.
02
Loaded
Tip it in flat and low, to the top rail and no higher. Some of our bins open on the short end, so a barrow can go straight in.
Heavy material flat and low so the tarp fastens and the bin can legally leave.
03
Off site
Call when it is full. Same-day for builders, often within a couple of hours; give us 24 hours where you can.
Off site the moment you call, no waiting for the weekly run.
04
Crushed
Tipped at our own sorting and recycling facility and crushed to reusable aggregate.
Road base and drainage gravel, not landfill. That is what a clean load buys you.
What a clean load is
Concrete only.
Bricks, timber, plasterboard, metal, soil or packaging in with it and it is no longer a concrete load: it is booked and priced as builders waste, and it is only partly recycled, if it can be split.

Concrete reaches the weight limit before it fills the bin, so it belongs in a smaller size than you would expect. Going over is charged per tonne.
Step 1: Tell us it is concrete, and roughly how much.
Details go to our platform and the quote comes back by email and SMS. Not sure on size? Say so and we will size it from the job.
Step 2: Call it in.
Same-day delivery for builders, and a bin is often on site within a couple of hours of the call. Everyone else, give us 24 hours where you can. We run multiple trucks across Cairns daily. A driveway or the site itself is the easiest spot. A council car park needs a permit arranged before delivery, such as the parking bays in the Cairns CBD.
Step 3: Load it flat and low.
Keep it flat and low and no higher than the top rail, so the tarp fastens and the bin can legally leave. Some of our bins open on the short end, so a barrow can go straight in rather than over the side. Ask when you book if that matters on your job.
Step 4: Call when it is full.
Off site the moment you call. Standard hire is up to 7 days, extended for a small cost when the job runs long, or swapped for an empty one if there is more to come.

One bin or two?
A slab with a timber frame on it, a path with the garden bed beside it, a driveway with the base under it: most concrete jobs throw off something else as well. Keep the concrete on its own and it is booked as a concrete load and crushed for reuse. Tip the rest in with it and the whole bin is builders waste, which costs more to process and is only partly recycled.
Talk to us before the bin arrives and we will work out whether one bin or two saves you money on the job. Concrete and soil in particular belong in separate bins: clean fill is taken in the 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³ only, and it is reused as fill, not crushed.

Our own yard
Crushed at our own yard, not tipped at somebody else's
Your concrete comes to our own sorting and recycling facility, run by Big Boyz Binz and Tropical Skips, not to somebody else's transfer station. Concrete and masonry are crushed into reusable aggregate for road base and drainage gravel. It costs less to process than a mixed load, and that shows up in your quote. That is the reason a mixed load costs more.
The fleet behind this page is Tropical Skips', grown from two trucks and 115 bins in 2019 to 800 bins and 10 trucks and more than 30,000 Cairns jobs. Same yard, same drivers, whether the bin is going to a slab demolition or a driveway.

Before you book
- Weight
- The 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³ are concrete only. The 6m³ takes a maximum of 6 tonne. Concrete reaches the weight limit before it fills the bin, so a slab belongs in a smaller size than you would expect. Going over is charged per tonne.
- Size
- A 2m³ bin is 1.9m long by 1.6m wide by 0.9m deep and suits soil, rubble, rock and concrete. Not sure? Tell us what was broken out and we will size it from the job.
- Access
- A driveway or lawn is the best place. A council car park needs a permit arranged before delivery. Call us first and we will work out where it goes.
- Turnaround
- Same-day for builders, often within a couple of hours of the call. Everyone else, give us 24 hours where you can. Collections can slip to the next day when the run is full.
- Hire period
- Up to 7 days as standard, extended for a small additional cost. Finished early? Call and we will collect it.
- Cost
- No price is quoted blind. Cost depends mostly on the size and what goes in it. Waste levies brought in during 2019 raised the cost of dumping material, and a mixed load still costs more to process than a separated one. Tell us the material and the size and we will quote it on the spot.
The five real questions
Frequently asked questions
Smaller than you think. The 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³ are concrete only, and the 6m³ takes a maximum of 6 tonne. It reaches the weight limit long before it fills the bin, so a broken-out slab usually belongs in a smaller size than you would expect. Tell us roughly how much was broken out and we will size it from the job.
Tell us first. Concrete on its own is booked as a concrete load and crushed for reuse. Once bricks, timber, plasterboard or packaging go in with it, the bin is builders waste, which costs more to process and is only partly recycled. If the job has both, we will work out whether one bin or two saves you money.
Keep them apart. Clean fill is reused as fill and is taken in the 2m³, 3m³ and 4m³ only. Concrete is crushed to road base and drainage gravel. Two clean loads cost less to process than one mixed one.
It goes to our own sorting and recycling facility, not somebody else's transfer station, and is crushed into reusable aggregate for road base and drainage gravel.
For builders, yes. Same-day delivery is what sets us apart, and a bin is often on site within a couple of hours of the call. Everyone else, give us 24 hours where you can. We run multiple trucks across Cairns daily.
